Background

Wildstone needed flexible infrastructure for launching Naruto.

As a publisher of “Naruto ONLINE”, co-produced by the largest Internet Chinese company: “Tencent”, and Japanese Bandai Namco, Wildstone was preparing to release the game. Using physical servers expected to be a constraint because it was difficult to expect the number of users in the beginning of launching the game. Wildstone needed to expand or shrink the server infrastructure from time to time depending on the number of users, but it was going to take at least two weeks prepare the physical servers. Thus, Wildstone looked for a company that could provide flexible infrastructure and communication in responding to the needs of overseas developers.

What did KINX do?

For flexible infrastructure, KINX proposed Ixcloud as well as CDN since it was a web-based game
For exquisite service, KINX assigned an exclusive engineer

KINX proposed a network optimized for Wildstone’s service environment, along with a cloud service that provided flexible infrastructure. KINX provided a separate OS that was optimized for game development environment, and separated an external network for service from an internal network for management. KINX also managed customer’s specific node configuration considering network quality and security. In addition, KINX also proposed CDN service considering the characteristic of web-based game: loading without installing game resources, so Wildstone could distribute resource files while users were playing the game using CDN cache service. KINX also provided a VM access for convenient infrastructure management. Lastly, KINX assigned an exclusive engineer and assisted in providing an English UI for the convenience of the developers.

Effect

Reduce infrastructure construction period, reduce cost and workload

Wildstone built the infrastructure in less than 10 minutes using the IXcloud instance which could have taken more than 2 weeks had they used physical servers. This helped Wildstone to lower initial infrastructure costs as well as time. At the same time, using CDN service, Wildstone improved the content transmission speed and reduced the load on the origin server. Finally, KINX’s dedicated management service, such as English UI and dedicated OS, have also reduced the work burden on service operations.
