Introduction

01

Startup That Published Naruto Online and Is Operating Web Game Portal, Picaon

WILDSTONE is a startup that spun off from MediaWeb, a subsidiary of Netmarble, in January 2016. It added a game distribution feature to Picaon, which was initially launched as membership service for PC room (Internet café) customers in 2012, and developed it into the present-day web game portal service. Picaon publishes and channels over 60 web games including Naruto Online, co-produced by Tencent and Bandai Namco. It is a widely popular platform that is used by nearly 40,000 users on a daily basis.

Background

02

Needed Flexible Infrastructure for the Launch of Naruto Online

As the publisher of Naruto Online, jointly produced by Tencent, China’s largest Internet company, and Bandai Namco in Japan, WILDSTONE was preparing to launch the game. They expected to face numerous constraints in case of using a physical server, due to the fluctuating number of users at the beginning of the game launch and during initial operation. The server infrastructure needed to be readily expanded or contracted according to the fluctuations in users, but it would take at least two weeks to procure physical servers. Accordingly, WILDSTONE began looking for a company that could provide a flexible infrastructure and respond to the needs of the overseas developers, based on active communication.

What did KINX do?

03

Proposed Cloud for Prompt Infrastructure Adjustments and CDN to Meet the Needs of Web Game Services and Provided Meticulous Management Services Through Dedicated Engineers

KINX proposed a number of solutions, including network optimized for the service environment of WILDSTONE, IXcloud enabling flexible infrastructure operation, and OS OS optimized for the game development environment. To improve security, the external service network and the internal management network were separated, and dedicated nodes were deployed. In addition, considering the characteristics of web games that are loaded directly without the need to install the game resources KINX recommended CDN caching service, which distributed content more efficiently to end users., Lastly, English UI made it easy for Wildstone’s developers to launch and manage cloud resources.

Effect

04

Reduced Infrastructure Setup Period, Costs and Workload

If WILDSTONE had chosen to go with physical servers, it would have taken them more than two weeks to build the infrastructure; with IXcloud, they were able to set up the infrastructure in less than 10 minutes. By doing so, they saved not only the initial cost but also time. At the same time, the CDN service was used to improve the content transfer speed and reduce the load on the origin server. Last but not least, we provided thorough management services including a UI in English and dedicated OS to help reduce the workload related to service operation.
