Game Company Established by the “Father of Online Games” in Korea

XLGames is a game company established by Song Jae-kyung, who has been dubbed the “Father of Online Games” in Korea for developing The Kingdom of the Winds and Lineage games. Since its establishment in 2003, the company has been releasing various games that have gained wide popularity. In particular, the massively popular multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG), ArcheAge, which was launched in 2013, has been well-received around the world including North America, Japan and Russia.

XLGames subsequently released Civilization Online in 2015 targeting the online game market, and this year, it even advanced into the mobile game market.

Needed Customized Notification Service to Prevent Inappropriate Game File Distribution

Large-scale online games require high traffic capacity especially when they are newly launched or when new patch files are released to accommodate massive downloads seamlessly. CDN service must also be used to accommodate the instantaneous surge in traffic with countless number of concurrent users trying to access the site and download the files.

Security was also considered crucial with respect to the game files distributed by XLGames. This was because game companies may be hacked into and unknowingly distribute files infected with malware to users. Accordingly, XLGames needed to prepare large-scale infrastructure required for large-scale games and to prevent inadvertent distribution of malware.

What did KINX do?

03

Notification to Person in Charge at XLGames When Uploading Game Content

KINX provided infrastructure capable of accommodating traffic of up to 400G so that users of XLGames could play their games without any problems even if the number of users increased sharply. Also, custom development was carried out to reflect XLGame’s desires to improve work efficiency and enhance the security of their games.

What resulted from the custom development process was a system where the details would be sent to the person in charge via e-mail when a game file was uploaded to the origin server so that he/she could check the file again.

More Efficient Game File Management by Person in Charge at XLGames

XLGames users, on the other hand, are now able to enjoy the games more seamlessly thanks to KINX’s large-scale infrastructure, and this has in turn boosted their satisfaction with the service. Meanwhile, the XLGames network personnel can check the file details and history when content is uploaded, which reduces the burden arising from file management.
