Large-Scale CDN Infrastructure Needed to Relay Golf Tournaments Live without Interruptions

As Korean golfers began actively participating in domestic and international competitions and achieving astounding results, the interest in golf began to skyrocket in Korea. As a result, JTBC Golf made preparations to broadcast all the LPGA tournaments live and found an alternative to ensure seamless live broadcasts.

Since countless viewers would be watching at the same time, they needed a large-scale infrastructure that would enable seamless broadcasts. For this purpose, the broadcaster decided to introduce a CDN streaming service and chose KINX CDN, which could handle up to 400G of traffic.

Support for Automatic Monitoring of the Fluctuating Traffic Information

Since the tournaments had to be relayed in real time, JTBC Golf had to set up reliable infrastructure to ensure that the viewers could enjoy the game without any interruptions. In order to check the expected traffic and respond quickly to sudden and unexpected situations, support was provided through KINX CDN’s 24-hour control center to constantly check the quality of the broadcast.

The original signal was monitored in the first mile, where the real-time tournament situation was transmitted to the origin server, whereas the quality of the relay service at various terminals used by actual users was checked in real time. Due to the nature of real-time relay, the traffic fluctuated considerably from day to day depending on whether or not a tournament was broadcast live. Accordingly, we developed and provided customized service for e-mailing the information on the peak traffic to the staff in charge at JTBC Golf.

Convenient Daily Traffic Reports for Staff in Charge at JTBC Golf

The thorough preparations and real-time monitoring and prompt responses by the 24-hour control center made it possible for JTBC Golf to relay golf tournaments without any problems, no matter how many people tuned in. Not only the staff in charge didn’t have to access the KINX CDN portal to check the traffic information, as the information was e-mailed to them on a daily basis, and this greatly improved their convenience.
